Required Registered Nurse Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Knowledge of nursing care principles, practices, and procedures
- Knowledge of safety principles and infection control in the patient care environment
- Ability to assess patients' needs and coordinate appropriate nursing care plan
- Ability to communicate orally
- Knowledge of rehabilitative nursing and pre/post-operative care
Education:
Professional Registration:
For consideration at the GS-04 level:
Please have one or more of the following:
- Completion of a program of less than 30 months' duration
- Associate degree
- 1 year of nursing experience as a military corpsman
For consideration at the GS-05 level:
Please have one or more of the following:
- Completion of a program of less than 30 months' duration or associate degree and 1 year of professional nursing, or of at least GS-4 level practical nurse or nursing assistant experience under the supervision of a professional nurse
- Four academic years above high school
- Bachelor's degree
For consideration at the GS-07 level:
Please have one or more of the following:
- Completion of a professional nursing program AND 1 year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level
- 1 full year of graduate education or Bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement
For consideration at the GS-09 level:
Please have one or more of the following:
- Master's Degree (or equivalent)
- 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education with a concentration in a field of nursing (e.g., teaching, a clinical specialty, research, administration) or in a closely related non-nursing field
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in Federal service
Note: Combinations of successfully-completed graduate level education and specialized experience may be used to meet the requirement of one year of specialized experience.
For consideration at the GS-10 level:
Please have one or more of the following:
- 2 ½ years of progressively higher level graduate education with a concentration in a field of nursing (e.g., teaching, a clinical specialty, research, administration) or in a closely related non-nursing field
- 1 year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level in Federal service
Note: Combinations of successfully-completed graduate level education and specialized experience may be used to meet the requirement of one year of specialized experience.
