Bureau of Prisons Deputy Director Retires.

(BOP) - On December 18, 2014, President Obama signed a bill into law renaming the United States Post Office in Lompoc, California, in honor of the late Senior Officer Specialist Scott Williams. Officer Williams was killed in the line of duty at USP Lompoc on April 3, 1997. Representative Lois Capps (California's 24th Congressional District) introduced the bill to honor Officer Williams "for his dedication and ultimate sacrifice as a public servant." The U.S. Post Office will be officially renamed the "Federal Correctional Officer Scott J. Williams Memorial Post Office Building."

Officer Williams was a native of Lompoc, graduated from Lompoc High School, and lived in Los Alamos with his wife and two daughters. Before beginning his four year career with the Bureau, he had served with distinction as a U.S. Marine in Operation Desert Storm, receiving several awards for his service, including Marine of the Year. Representative Capps stated, "While we can never do enough to recognize this man, who dedicated his life to keeping our nation and community safe, this tribute ensures that we will never forget the sacrifice he - or his family - (has) made."
