Acting Director Kane Visits FCI Cumberland

Observes Prescription Opioid and Heroin Epidemic Awareness Week events

Acting Director Kane Visits FCI Cumberland

(BOP) - On September 19, Acting Director Kane visited the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Cumberland, Maryland, and observed the Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program's (RDAP) discussion on opioid and heroin abuse and treatment. During Prescription Opioid and Heroin Epidemic Awareness Week (September 18 - 24),
Bureau of Prisons facilities around the Nation are conducting events to further prevention, awareness, and treatment of heroin and opioid addiction: presentations by health services and psychology services staff to raise awareness; dissemination of opioid addiction resource materials; panel discussions by inmates with an opioid abuse history; and observing moments of silence during RDAP community meetings for lives lost to opioid addiction.

Additionally, the Bureau will be conducting Opioid Prescriber Training for health care providers, and will disseminate information to staff about the dangers of opioid misuse and the treatment services available.
