New applications enhance reentry efforts and saves resources

Insight Deployed Throughout the Bureau

(BOP) - Case Managers throughout the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) have a new way to develop individualized reentry plans for inmates. The suite of Insight applications were developed over the past few years by staff in the Correctional Programs Division, the Reentry Services Division, and the Office of Information Technology, as well as subject matter experts from the field representing bargaining unit staff. The applications enhance the creation of inmate progress reports, and inmate furlough and release referral paperwork, as well as provide for the electronic storage of such documents. The applications are all fully integrated with the BOP's inmate management system, SENTRY.

These tools eliminate the duplication of effort for staff in different departments and maximizes their ability to share information. Additionally, these applications avoid costs associated with printing and mailing documents, instead routing documents electronically, including Residential Reentry Center Referral packets. The staff in the Office of Information Technology continue to refine the application based on feedback and suggestions from staff in the field who are using the tools to perform their jobs.
