FPC Duluth Receives Minnesota Governor's Safety Award

(BOP) - The Minnesota Safety Council honored Federal Prison Camp (FPC) Duluth with the 2018 Meritorious Achievement Award in Occupational Safety. FPC Duluth Warden Melissa Rios and Environmental & Safety Compliance Administrator John Stanford accepted the Governor's Safety Award during the recently held 85th annual Minnesota Safety and Health Conference.

Award nominees are judged based on two main factors: 1) several years of injury data in comparison with industry national statistics and 2) progress in implementing a comprehensive safety program. FPC Duluth's data was better than the industry average for the last three years. Specifically in 2018, there were zero serious workplace injuries or Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) citations or complaints among staff and inmates. Warden Melissa Rios stated, "Safety at the Federal Bureau of Prisons is of the highest priority. The staff at FPC Duluth work tirelessly to provide a safe and healthful environment for all."

The Minnesota Safety Council, founded in 1928, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing unintentional injuries. The Governor's Safety Awards Program has been honoring Minnesota workplaces for excellence in safety since 1934.

FPC Duluth is minimum-security federal prison camp.
