Bureau Seeking Inmate Program Submission under FSA

Process established to review new programs for inmates earning FSA time credits

Bureau Seeking Inmate Program Submission under FSA

(BOP) - The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is seeking program submissions from criminal justice stakeholders to expand the number of BOP programs for inmates earning First Step Act (FSA) time credits, a key phase in FSA implementation efforts. The FSA enables eligible inmates to earn time credits if they participate in, and complete, assigned programs aimed at reducing recidivism rates.

The Bureau's list of programs, currently offered in BOP facilities, address individual criminogenic and critical needs of eligible inmates. As the BOP continues to implement the FSA, the agency will consider submissions from stakeholders to expand the number of programs available to eligible inmates for potential inclusion on the BOP approved list.

Each program submission will be thoroughly and equitably evaluated by an independent, outside group to determine if the program reduces recidivism and if BOP-relevant criteria are met. Based on the information from the independent reviews, the BOP will decide if the program will be included on the approved list.

More information on the program submission and review process can be found on the BOP's FSA web page.
