Holly L. Busby
Holly L. Busby is the Acting Director of the National Institute of Corrections (NIC). Ms. Busby has a diverse career in criminal justice and social service spanning more than 30 years. Early in her career, she served as a Child Protection Specialist with Dodge County Human Services, licensed through the State of Minnesota's Board of Social Work; worked as a Victim Services Social Worker with DFO County Community Corrections serving as a Crime Victim's Advocate, Sexual Assault Crisis Counselor and Coordinator of the Victim Services Volunteer Program, and served as a Licensed Peace Officer through the State of Minnesota's Post Board, working in the patrol and civil/warrants divisions of the Olmsted County Sheriff's Department.
Before joining NIC, Holly served as a Senior Probation Agent, and later Program Manager with Dodge-Fillmore-Olmsted (DFO) County Community Corrections in Rochester, MN. Ms. Busby joined NIC as a Correctional Program Specialist and went on to serve in positions of increasing responsibility, including Chief of the NIC Community Services Division, and most recently, Deputy Director for NIC.
As the Acting Director for NIC, Ms. Busby oversees the advancement of public safety by shaping and enhancing correctional policies and practices through leadership, learning, and innovation. By providing practical assistance in planning and implementing improvements at the federal, state, tribal and local levels, NIC contributes to cost efficiency and effectiveness in such areas as planning, design, and operation of new jails, prisons, and community corrections programs, offender workforce development programs, and offender classification and risk assessment. NIC also influences correctional policies, practices, and operations nationwide in areas of emerging interest and concern to correctional executives and practitioners, as well as public policymakers.
